The first congress of the EMN took place in
Salzburg on 17 and 18 May 1996. The central themes of this congress were
Emergency rescue systems and neuroprotection in traumatic brain injury
President of the congress Hofrat Univ.-Prof. H. E. Diemath was
pleased to welcome over 200 participants from all parts of Europe. In the large
lecture hall of the Clinic of Neurology in Salzburg around forty lectures were held by
specialists from a dozen European countries. The first memorial lecture in honour of the
deceased member of the Presidium Prof. J. D. Miller (Edinburgh) was held by his
former tutor Prof. W. Bryan Jennett (Glasgow). The theme was:
Half a century of head injuries care
The publication
"Brain Protection in Severe Head Injury" of the lectures of
the first EMN Congress has been published in English by Diemath, Sommerauer and von Wild
in the Zuckschwerdt-Verlag.
